If you try to boot from the Windows 8.1 DVD to upgrade Windows 8 you will get this error message:
The computer started the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally.
This means that you can’t upgrade to Windows 8.1 by booting from the setup DVD. You have to start Windows 8 and then start setup.exe from Windows Explorer.
