    Hi all,

I had an old CPU with Intel Core 2 CPU E6300 @1.86GHz (x64-based processor) with 3 GB RAM. I want to extend its memory to 8 GB and want to use it for testing purposes.

Will processor support this 8GB RAM? My sixth sense it should since 8 GB for RAM is normal size so I would also like to know in general the relation between processor specs and RAM.

I Googled processor datasheet and I couldn’t find anything 🙂

    Thank you,

    Karim

It usually is the motherboard that limits the amount of RAM you can use because you can only use certain kinds of modules. I would google the motherboard.

Michael is correct and I want to add that I’ve had several 8GB Core2Duo Dell Optiplex. I believe 8GB is the limit for the optiplex C2D’s. 2 x 4GB DDR2.

Thank you both Michael and Jason. I referred the specs of motherboard and it gave me a clue about max supported RAM.

My issue has been resolved 🙂
