    Hi all,

I have limited setup in lab. I want to install Exchange 2016 on Windows 2016 Domain Controller.  I have read somewhere that it is supported but not recommended. I would like to get the comments from someone who already did this.

    Thank you,

    Karim

I suppose you have read this.

I have been running an older Exchange version on a domain controller without problems. However, considering that Microsoft doesn’t recommend it for Exchange 2016, I would avoid it at all costs. Email is vital for every organization and you really want to avoid anything that can cause trouble. Whenever there is an issue, you will ask yourself if the DC is the culprit. The list of downsides that Microsoft mentions in the article I linked to above, is already impressive enough for me.

      Yes, I have read this.

I want to use this setup for testing purposes only.

      Thank you,

I guess it is okay if you just want to learn about Exchange. However, if you setup a test environment that is supposed to become a production system later, I would make sure that both systems are more or less identical.
