It was always obvious to me that Amazon is the absolute cloud leader, however, I didn’t expect that the lead is already that big. Since 4sysops is running on EC2 I regularly have the chance to enlarge my experience with Amazon’s cloud. Although I only use a very small part of their infrastructure, I got good feeling about the speed this public cloud is growing. The ecosystem living in Amazon’s cloud is probably growing at the same pace.
For Microsoft and other cloud players the main question is how they can prevent the gap from getting bigger. It is funny that Microsoft always saw Google as its main competitor in the cloud. The search engine leader is not even mentioned in the Network World report.

I recently did some testing for possible cloud offsite backups:
Amazon Glacier: 0,011 Euro per GB/month + restore traffic
Windows Azure Backup Preview: 0,182 GB/month
Microsoft still has a lot of catching up to do.

Yeah, I guess it is not a good strategy to be more expensive than the market leader.
