The Windows Mobile IP Utility from Enterprise Mobile runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1. For Windows Mobile 5.0 you have to install the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 first. The tool allows you to troubleshoot network connections with your Pocket PC or Smartphone. This can be useful if you have problems with a Wi-Fi or 3G connection.

The tool shows the IP configuration of your device, supports ping, trace route, ping sweep, and allows you to test the speed the of your Internet connection. Unfortunately, the speed test didn’t work when I tried the utility. It launched the Internet Explorer which tried to open a web page at Enterprise Mobile, but the site only produced a runtime error. Perhaps this is only a temporary problem.
All other functions worked flawlessly. If your Smartphone has more than one network adapter, you have to make sure that you have selected the correct network device before you use the tool. If you launch the Windows Mobile IP Utility before the network connection has been established, you have to navigate to “Renew IP” once you are online. Only then will you able to select the right network device.
