There’s nothing worse than needing to get console access on a physical server because of a problem that is preventing you from accessing it via PowerShell Remoting, Remote Desktop, SSH, or some other remote access protocol. As it turns out, there is something worse: getting errors on the embedded remote management card.
If you’re using the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) as part of your server management, you may encounter an iDRAC screen with the word “undefined” repeated over and over, along with the “The webpage cannot be found” error, in Internet Explorer 11. I’ve seen the error on both iDRAC 6 and iDRAC 7:
iDRAC 6: “The webpage cannot be found” and “undefined” listed repeatedly in IE11
iDRAC 7: “The webpage cannot be found” and “undefined” listed repeatedly in IE11
Depending on the iDRAC version you have, there are a few different workarounds, as well as one fix if you’re running version 7.
Upgrade the firmware
If you’re running iDRAC 7, you can install a firmware update that will fix the problem permanently. Dell has a page for iDRAC 7 that lists the current firmware builds along with download links. The 2.10.10.10 build that was released in April 2015 (the latest build as of the writing of this article) fixes the problem. The biggest gotcha with upgrading the firmware in this solution is checking to see if the latest iDRAC firmware breaks anything for you or requires you to update other infrastructure. Additionally, if you have to go through change control to make an update to the iDRAC firmware, this may not be the quickest solution to your problem.
Change browsers
For the Dell iDRAC 6, earlier versions of Internet Explorer and some older versions of Firefox are supported. If you have a machine with an older build of IE, you can switch to that system. I was also able to access an iDRAC 6 with more modern versions of Firefox.
Use Internet Explorer Enterprise Mode (EMIE)
Like many other web applications, the Dell iDRAC web interface can be put into Enterprise Mode and fooled into thinking it is running in IE8. Just be aware that if you manually enable Enterprise Mode by going to Tools > Enterprise Mode, you’ll be kicked out of the iDRAC interface and have to log back in.
If the Tools > Enterprise Mode option is missing in IE11, you most likely don’t have Enterprise Mode enabled. You can enable EMIE in Group Policy or enable it by making a Registry edit. Open the Registry editor and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\. You’ll need to add additional keys by right-clicking the Internet Explorer key and choosing New > Key. The finished structure should be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode. Last, right-click in the right pane and choose New > String Value and type Enable. Your finished product should look something like this:
Enable Enterprise Mode for Inter Explorer in the Registry
Restart Internet Explorer. You should now be able to enable Enterprise Mode on your iDRAC to remotely manage your server.

I’m having the same issue.
Getting a “undefined” links and certificate errors on 2 new R610 boxes (DRAC 6 Enterprise) I’ve installed today. Can’t even do a basic thing as log into the DRAC. Tried Firefox 42, Edge, IE11. Already whitelisted https://ipaddress in my java configuration too. Cleared browser cache, cookies, restarted. Same nonsense. And, these are already running firmware version 1.99.
I’ve outlined what fixed it for me when I’ve encountered the issue in the article. If you’ve followed all the steps on a brand new server and you’re still having the issue, it is probably time to call Dell support.
This solved the problem for me on an iDRAC 6, but there is a mistake in your text, which prevented me from enabling Enterprise Mode. You list the registry key as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Internet Explorer\ but thankfully your screenshot shows the correct path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
At the second attempt I was able to switch into Enterprise Mode and the iDRAC loaded correctly.
AAARRRRGGG! Thanks for catching that… it has been fixed in the article. Even with a proofreader and an editor reading these articles after we submit them, something slips through eventually. Thanks again!
Try running IE in Compatibility mode for the IDRAC IP address. Go to Tools icons > Compatibility View Settings.
Add the IP or URL of the iDRAC into the “Add this website” box, click Add, then Close.
The page should refresh, login again and it should work.
Yep… that would be why I linked to this article: https://4sysops.com/archives/group-policy-changes-in-windows-8-1-update/#internet-explorer-enterprise-mode
thanks tee carter. compatibility mode worky for me.
Compatibility mode did not work for me and I have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft but no Internet Explorer entry.
I’m using IE11 with iDRAC7 Enterprise v2.0 and am just getting the “This page can’t be displayed” error. When troubleshooting, I get “The remote device or resource won’t accept the connection” error. I’ve checked the IP address is correct in OMSA.
This is a virtual host with two onboard NICs, one of these is on the 10.0.0.x range dedicated for management and the iDRAC address is in the same range.
Hi,
Clicck settings for your browser and go to compatibility mode then add the IP.
It will log you out of your iDrac.
Hope this fixes your issue.
Compatibility mode worked for me, too. Thanks a lot!
But I want to know why I must change the mode, I can log in the iDrac before.
iDrac6 seems to work with with Chrome. Was having the above issues with IE, FF would not allow login. Chrome worked beautifully
For Idrac6, IE11 will not work, it will partially work in compatibily mode, Chome seems to be the best and it did not worked at all with Firefox.
The feature I wanted the most was the preview console, so I could see remotely what is going on at the server even before it boot, so I could see error or make change to the bios setting.
The only solution I found was to start a VM on my laptop with XP sp3 and Java 7U25.
It may seems like crazy, but it works like a charm
Try Chrome. It worked all the time for me.
Hi
for me the compatible mode works is fine
Thanks a lot
