ExInsight_Report I have found this tool to be invaluable for troubleshooting Exchange issues. Here is a description from the website:

ExInsight is a monitoring and statistics tool that provides a real-time view of the internals of Exchange Server transactions and allows you to evaluate individual user's usage of Exchange Server.

ExInsight_Trace2 This tool is especially useful for Exchange administrators and developers. By using this tool, you can gather real-time data about the users in an Exchange environment and learn more about the inner workings of MAPI, OWA, POP3, IMAP4, NNTP and other protocols.

ExInsight helps you to understand how individual users affect the performance of an Exchange Server, analyze application usage of Microsoft Exchange, and guide troubleshooting of applications that depend on Microsoft Exchange.

This used to be a paid for tool but is free now.

Update: The tool is no longer available.

Free ? Free 15 day trial though. Shame

  2. It seems as if it is free now. I didn’t find a way to buy the tool via their website. There only is a donation page now.

I was using that on my last job and yes, I think it is free now.

With my current job, we are using an exchange auditing application that you do have to purchase but it is sweet for tracking, reporting and providing alerts.

It’s called change auditor for exchange and I highly recommend it if you’ve got some budget to work with.

Link is dead. Found an old copy of it with google (v 1.1.154), but it does not support Exchange 2010 (and presumably anything newer). Bummer.

  6. James, thanks for the hint. I updated the post.
