The Windows Insider Program enables you to receive new Windows 10 updates before the rest of the pack. First, sign up for the program with a Microsoft account. After that you can enable the Windows Insider updates in the Advanced Options of the Windows 10 Update settings.
Enabling Windows Insider builds
One problem with the Windows Insider Program is that you don’t know when the updates are actually downloading. Even though I set the Windows Insider setting to “Fast,” I waited several hours without any indication that the November update was downloading.
Fortunately, a more direct way exists to download and install the November update without delay. First, download the media creation tool from http://microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. (Open the page on a Windows machine. On my Mac, I was redirected to a page that didn’t offer the download link for the media creation tool.)
Download media creation tool
Launch the tool on the Windows 10 machine that you want to update, and then select Upgrade this PC now.
Upgrading to Windows 10 November update
The media creation tool will now download the November update. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, this can take a while because you are downloading the complete Window 10 installation – about 3GB.
Downloading the Windows 10 November update
After the Windows 10 download completes, the media creation tool will check for new updates.

The update should now be ready for installation. It might require several reboots.
The November update is installing.
After the installation of the update has finished, you can verify that you have the new update by entering winver in Start search. The version number is 1511 and the build number is 10586.
The Windows 10 November update is build 10586.
The installation is a bit long-winded but, compared to Insider updates. At least you don’t have to wait until Windows Update is ready to serve you.
Unfortunately, the media creation tool does not work with every Windows edition. When I tried to upgrade a Windows 10 Enterprise edition, I received the error message:
This tool can’t upgrade your PC – The language or edition of the version of Windows currently installed on your PC isn’t supported by this tool.
Media creation tool on Windows 10 Enterprise
Because I was using the US English edition, the reason why the media creation tool didn’t might have been that I was running it on an Enterprise edition. However, it worked fine on Windows 10 Pro. Please share your experiences with the media creation tool and the November update in the comments.

I got problems with networking and virtual switches in Hyper-V after this update. So better remove your virtual switches, do the update and then redefine your virtual switches again.
Kurt, thanks for the hint. Maybe the problem is related to a new Virtual Switch type that was introduced with the November Update. We will cover the topic these days.
