Nev, hmm what do you mean with “move to function”. You can move files in Vista the same way you did in XP. It is funny somehow that you complain that Explorer keeps forgetting your folder settings. I often had this problem under XP, but never under Vista. I also didn’t like the new Network Configuration Center in the beginning, but I now like it better than under XP. The fastest way I know to change the network settings is to right click on Network in the Start Menu and then navigate to Properties. I also don’t have problems launching Office apps via the Start Search prompt. I do this every day. And you are right, Vista is slower than XP. This is how it should be with an advanced operating system.

Ochiru, Start++ is certainly great, too. I <a href="http://4sysops.com/archives/start-add-on-for-vista-lets-you-starts-applications-faster/" rel="nofollow">reviewed</a> it a while back. However, I think Vista’s Start Search prompt is good enough for the average end user. As to running Windows Server 2008 as a workstation, I’ve read several articles about this topic and some say it is a myth that Server2008 is faster than Vista SP1. After all, they have the same code base. Thus if you configured them the same way and if you have the same services running, you probably won’t experience a speed difference. But Hyper-V is indeed a argument for Server 2008.

Start search prompt is indeed good enough in itself but try that with Start++ and you will never want go back to classic start menu.

"PS, Server 2008 as a workstation runs as fast as XP… If I had to reinstall, it will be Server 2008."

I think there was MS employee (forgot who) who said he uses Server 2008 as his primary OS and everything else is on Virtual Machines. That would be a really good option for my work laptop.

After over a year with Vista...

Here's some "I can't stand" Items"
-"MOVE TO" function in explorer missing.
-Folder keeps forgetting settings. (just bc there's a image file in the folder doesn't mean I want it all in thumbnails!)
-Network Connections is a labyrinth. (used to be one click to network connections.. now making a vpn is takes like guessing game of clicks).
-Start Search prompt is buggy.. won't launch some apps(word/excel 07!)... so I have to manually have to go in.
-slooooowwww... (I have an Mtron 16GB SSD.. that flies with XP on it!)

The only thing I would miss is the full system backup (that only goes for those with Ult/Business/Ent. versions).
