Of course Microsoft prioritizes Vista SP over XP SP. Vista is their shiny new money making OS. XP is the old and busted OS on the way out (supposedly). Not to mention that XP has already had two SP which should indicate it is pretty well hardened (although I think last I checked XP SP2 needed about 100 update from WU). Vista is new and needed the early bugs squashed.

Even though MS is a very large company, they do have finite resources. Personally I'd rather them focus on getting Vista up to speed.

Jarred, this “it’s done when it’s done” mentality of big software companies is typical. You’re right about that. What I don’t understand is why we have different rules for them and for the rest of the industry. If Boeing isn’t able to keep the “release date” of a new aircraft they have to pay fines. If I order a special software solution at a small software company I will certainly set a date when the application has to be delivered. The way things stand now, Microsoft has a fool’s license. They can deliver the software we already paid for whenever it fits in their current strategy. Why do you think that XP SP3 comes out after Vista SP1?

This is my favorite corporate release date: "It's done when it's done."

How do you put a date on software? To me that says it'll be shipped even if it has bugs. Or it is shipping long after it is done. When corps do give dates and then miss them, the blogs will beat them over the head. Who can blame them?
