It seems that since Vista RC1 is out more people are getting interested in Microsoft’s new baby. All posts I wrote recently about Vista are getting noticeable more traffic these days. The media coverage is also growing although most of the journalists seem to be only interested in the whistles and bells. Well, I know, many sysops like to play too, so I collected some recommendable articles about Vista.
Computerworld has some screenshots. Edd Bott doesn’t like some of Vista’s default settings, so he recommend 10 tweaks for Windows Vista RC1. Mitch Tulloch’s first impressions are quite positive, like others he thinks that Vista is stable now. This is does not match with my own experience though.
But there are also some negative voices. Oliver Rist complains about compatibility issues and that Vista is not so revolutionary as many expected. Like many others he mostly talks about the whistle and bells. No word about Vista’s new imaging technology, for example, which is indeed revolutionary in my view.
Joris Evers is addressing another interesting issue. As you might know, Vista by default supports IPv6. This might significantly increase the load on DNS servers because Vista will always make two DNS requests, one for IPv4 and one for IPv6.
Beeing a citizen of the “old continent” I’ve read with interest that we might have to live a bit longer with the old version of Windows here. The EU bureaucrats still didn’t decide what Vista features are good for us Europeans.
