Now, that’s funny somehow. Many IT sites and countless blogs have the news: Windows Script 5.7 is available for download. Okay, but why should I download and deploy it? What are its new features? What are the bug fixes?

Nobody really seems to care. It’s from Microsoft, it’s new, it’s free, so go and get it! I suppose for most of those journalists and bloggers, only one new feature is really important: the version number. Before it was 5.6 and now it’s 5.7. This great new feature should be reason enough to update your machines, right?

You might say, but how could anyone know about the new features and bug fixes if Microsoft doesn’t publish anything about them? Indeed, this is all the information we get from the Redmond guys:

This download installs Microsoft® Windows® Script containing Visual Basic® Script Edition (VBScript.) Version 5.7, JScript® Version 5.7, Windows Script Components, Windows Script Host 5.7, and Windows Script Runtime Version 5.7.

Okay, Microsoft, Windows, Visual Basic, and JScript are registered trademarks. Interesting! Windows Script Host is not. That’s interesting, too! I wonder if any other company would get away with this. Just stick a new version number onto your product and countless news sites and blogs will promote it for you.
