Scott, thanks for the info. We all know that even Microsoft’s resources are limited. I just wonder why PowerShell wasn’t released first for Vista and then for XP.

Hi,
The PowerShell team and Microsoft feel really bad that we don’t have an RTM version of Windows PowerShell for Vista RTM. Because Vista RTM was not gold until Nov 8th, the team could not commence final PowerShell testing on Vista could not start until then. Essentially, the installation technology for Vista is different from the install tech for XP and Windows Server 2003. So, to make sure we have it right, we needed to take the time to ensure that PowerShell on Vista RTM has the same quality as our PowerShell RTM for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP. So its not an organizational issue but a new technology issue and many products being launched simultaneously.

The good news is that we will deliver an RTM version by January 31st, 2007, at the latest, but we may be able to deliver it sooner if all goes well.

In the meantime, we do have a PowerShell RC2 package for install on Vista Build 5600 and â€?Windows Server “Longhorn” build 5600. These have been heavily tested.

To download Windows PowerShell, go to http://www.microsoft.com/powershell/download.

You can read http://blogs.msdn.com/powershell for more info and to be notified when PowerShell RTM for Vista RTM is available.

[...] Of course MS Powershell 1.0 (formerly known as Monad) also wont work on Vista (well, ok - it will work with RC1 but not RC2). Which kinda tells me that this is a widespread organizational problem at MS. [...]
