Sly, you’re right. That is an unpleasant practice of many PC vendors nowadays. But I wonder why you need 3 DVDs?

Only with Vista 64, and no OS CDs or DVDs.
You have to run HP Recovery Disc Creation and it takes forever (at least 2 hours) to create 3 DVDs.

What I think is that the OS discs should always be provided with a new computer purchase.

I cannot bootup with the original OS disc and do a repair!

Carl@Brightrev, thanks! I posted the last article in this series. It is interesting how many voted already for Vista x64. Maybe this information is more valuable than my theoretical considerations. ;-)

Sly, they delivered it with Vista x64 only? Or is there also a Vista x86 DVD?

Just bought a new HP Pavilion DV9858CA with the new T8100 cpu and 800Mhz motherboard and it comes with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

It seems that HP has joined this new wave of pushing Vista 64 bit out to the home users.

This is very strange because usually they are people using older hardware at home and will run into more driver problems.

Not everything is logical in life!

Just wanted to stop by and say that this is a really good series. I've been wondering about some of these detail items, but not quite enough to setup an entire dual-boot environment, reinstall apps, etc. You're answering a lot of my questions. Nice work.
