interesting these numbers, i'm a Linux user and admin and very happy with its performance on the desktop and so are my users, about 40 of them (20 of them in China).

and no, we did not purchase any OEM Linux computers so probably not registered in this 0.7%.

but to tell you the truth...i don't care how big the Linux market share is and i actually like it this way. Linux makes my life easy and my users happy and i get the appreciation for it..let all the others work for their money and keep reinstalling those things.....

Is going strong? The worldwide market share of Linux is 0.7%. I suppose it is even worse in China. I have been several times there and I know quite a few Chinese. They love western brands and Linux isn’t really one. We hear this story about “increasing numbers already for many years now. I think it is the time now to admit that Linux on the desktop was a complete failure. This is what the numbers tell us. Besides, I wouldn’t call a company with a 13% increase in revenue desperate. Believe me, the Chinese government would love to have a successful desktop OS made in China. But even they realized that it just doesn’t make sense anymore. I love Linux as a server OS for Web applications. But on the desktop? I wouldn’t even call it a competitor to Windows.

RedFlag stopped being an independent product and joined Asianux which is still going strong. The world doesn't stop at China either. Markets such as Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam are just as important.

Lets be clear about this, China got cheap deals from Microsoft for only one reason -- Microsoft are desperate. Vista sales have been lacklustre, most customers buying new PCs ask for XP. Business desktops are quietly and steadily getting flipped over to Linux the world over and both the Linux professionals and the Linux hobbyists are increasing in number.
