Microsoft Virtual Server will be for free
By Michael Pietroforte | 5 Comments | Permalink | Trackback | Previous | NextI have read this today on a German news service, heise.de. They say that Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 will be for free. There will be no standard edition anymore, only an enterprise edition. Virtual PC remains a commercial product though.
This, obviously, is a reaction of VMware’s announcement that VMware server will be for free. I am currently trying to decide, which of the two products, we will use in the future. Yesterday, I was more or less convinced that it will be VMware. I am not so sure anymore. I will probably have to test them both thoroughly.

I have used both virtual PC and VMware and I can say without a doubt that VMware is the better product. Virtual PC is awful it doesn’t even run Microsoft OS’s at a decent speed. VMware is king
Use Linux
Robert, I fully agree. VMware Workstation is much better than Virtual PC. However, it is also more expensive.
Josh, I do use Linux whenever it is the better choice.
VMware is indeed king!
VMware over Virtual PC, for desktop..
but for servers..
Virtual Server over VMWare Server. Ever.
When its used for developement test, i want to be able to remote control de damn thing. And the performancee of the remote VMWare server is very poor.
