Adam, exactly! The point is that Firefox also has to run on other operating systems. I think this is the main reason why the Firefox team doesn't care about Windows specific features. That's why I believe that Firefox 8 will still be no option for enterprises.

Christoph, I hope you enabled scripting for 4sysops. Otherwise you won't be able to see the interesting ads of my sponsors. ;-)

Christopher, I doubt that it will happen in this century.

Alex, "actively disregarding" hits the nail on the head. Sometimes it seems to me that they simply don't want that Firefox is used for "commercial reasons".

Having worked with application packaging and deployment for many years now in various corporate environments I can only concur.

Mozilla seem to be actively disregarding this area and have been for many years.

I understand Mozilla has to balance different priorities than Microsoft (especially when deciding to implement features for only one platform like this). However, without being properly integrated into the core product (rather than being tacked on by third parties) the solutions for deployment, patching, handling of extensions and centralized management will always be half baked and cannot be recommended for usage in corproate environments.

The lack of centralized management of Firefox is the reason why we do not use it at our company. As soon as I can deploy and push updates to Firefox as easily (and inexpensively) as I do IE, then IE is out.

There is absolutely NO Match for Firefox+Noscript in todays browser world. Period.
Was also nice to see that IE8+Build7057 Win7 fell after a few minutes at pwn2own.

I've been involved in helping customers build remote distribution of both browsers, and I have to say that the central management of IE really does far outshine Firefox. Deploying both are pretty easy, but managing and updating Firefox is an ongoing battle that IE managers just doesn't need to face.

I think part of it is that IE is able to take advantage of already existing Windows infrastructure, so Firefox needs to work that much harder. They don't seem to be, and it's a shame, because they're just leaving marketshare on the table here.
