I don't think 1672x1016 are normal settings so I believe the driver is reading the max for the VMware window. Not Autofit, but close. I installed the Windows Vista RC1 build 5600 in a vm on VMware Server 1.0 running in Ubuntu 6.06, installed VMware tools as normal, rebooted and then went into the Display settings for Vista and used the slider to select the settings that were available to give me “full screen” in a Quick Switch mode. I think that the problem is with the video resolution.

I put this line to my vmx file:

svga.maxWidth = “640″
svga.maxHeight = “480″

to force the vga resolution. After this the installation was ok.

After the installation of Vista I removed the lines and i have installed the vmware tools.
