Download Windows Vista RC1, VMware problem still unsolved
By Michael Pietroforte | 2 Comments | Permalink | Trackback | Previous | NextYou can now download Windows Vista RC1. Unfortunately, it still has the same problem with VMware Workstation. Based on the number of people coming from Google in the last couple of days that have read my workaround , I suppose that this is a well known problem.
Update: The workaround mentioned is not the best solution. Please check out this post for an easier way to install Windows Vista RC1 on VMware Workstation.
Of course, many test beta software in a virtual environment and there is no doubt about it that VMware is the market leader. So, why doesn’t Microsoft check if a release candidate works on VMware Workstation? I guess, there is no problem with Virtual PC and Vista.
Please, also check out the Windows Vista Team Blog about the Customer Preview Program if you didn’t register previously for Beta 2.

There are 2 easy issues during the setup of Vista RC1 on VMWare that are easily resolved.
1) Setup hangs at the loading files stage…
Solution – Joel has the correct answer and it works. I have verified it.
Refer to:

2) Disk Partitioning issue where it asks you to reboot to verify your disks in the bios.
Solution
Reboot the system but press F2 and select to start from the Vista DVd and the issue is by passed. Again solution has been verified and it works.
Edit the virtual machine’s .vmx file to include
svga.maxWidth = “640″
svga.maxHeight = “480″
Setup will install fine, after installation, istall Vmware Tools, remove the lines from .vmx, change resolution.
