The final version of IE7 will probably be available this month. Microsoft plans to distribute IE7 as an automatic update in November or December. This cuts both ways. On the one hand, IE7 brings more security; on the other hand it could cause compatibility problems. Depending on the kind of users you have, it might be necessary to inform them first about the changes. If you need more time, you should consider disabling the automatic installation of IE7.
Microsoft offers a toolkit for this purpose and Intelliadmin has a GUI tool. The Intelliadmin tool is nice if you only want to change the settings on a couple of PCs. Unfortunately, you can’t select multiple computers with this tool. With the Microsoft toolkit you can write a script for the job or you use Group Poilcy. If you have a big network, the latter choice is the best in my view.
If you don’t want IE7 to be automatically deployed in your network, I suggest taking care of this problem now. Otherwise you might forget it until November.
